5 Most Common Causes Why Palms Get Itchy And How You Can Treat Them! MUST READ

If the palm gets itchy, it may influence the way you complete your daily activities. Itchy palm may not be a disorder, but it could be a result of several factors or some disease conditions.

To treat the situation, the cause of the itchy palm should be first determined.

Our palms and fingertips contain numerous of nerve endings and are very sensitive. In fact, scientists say that your fingertips can identify textures that are just nanometers in size.
This means that any itch or discomfort in your palms can be more intense than itching in other parts of your body.

Here are the most common 5 causes of itchy palm and how each cause could be treated.

1. Psoriasis

Psoriasis happens when skin cells grow too fast and then pile up on the skin’s surface. It’s a long-lasting condition that usually runs in families. There are a few different types, and itchiness of the palms and soles is a common symptom.

What to do:

It is important to keep your palms well moisturized if you have psoriasis. One very easy way to hydrate your hands is to regularly apply virgin coconut oil or olive oil.  You can also use cayenne pepper as it contains a compound called capsaicin (this is what give chilies their spicy flavor) which can help reduce itching.

2. Eczema

Eczema is a term for a group of conditions that inflame the skin. There are several different types that can show up anywhere on the body. But one type, called dyshidrotic dermatitis, affects only the hands and feet.

What to do:

Virgin coconut oil is an excellent natural remedy for eczema. To help alleviate pruritus of the palms, all you have to do is gently massage small amounts of coconut oil into your palm. Apply the coconut oil several times a day and before bedtime to help keep your palms itch-free and highly moisturized.

3. Scabies

An eight-legged bug, called the human itch mite, is the source of this common skin condition. The tiny pest digs into the top layer of your skin and lays eggs there, causing scabies. You usually can’t get scabies from quick touching, like a handshake or a hug.

What to do:

Tea tree oil is a natural insecticide that can help to get rid of the mites that cause the itching. To make a tea tree lotion to stop the itching caused by scabies, mix a few drops of tea tree oil with 1 tbsp. coconut oil. Massage the mixture into your palms and between your fingers in the morning and before bedtime. Continue applying the mixture until the rash has gone.

4. Ringworm

If you have a red circular itchy rash on your palm with clearer skin in the middle, it could be a sign that you have ringworm. Despite its name, ringworm is not caused by a worm but by a fungal infection on your skin.

What to do:

Some types of ringworm infections will clear up on their own and so no treatment is necessary. If treatment is needed then an antibiotic called Griseofulvin can be used.

5. Allergies

Your skin can have an allergic reaction to something you touch. The response you see and feel is another type of eczema called allergic contact dermatitis. Symptoms may not appear for a few hours after you touch the item you’re allergic to.

What to do:

Antihistamines are usually prescribed to reduce the symptoms of allergies. However, there are many natural alternatives that can help to alleviate allergic reactions. One proven natural antihistamine that can help to reduce itching is stinging nettle (Urtica dioica). 300 mg of the freeze-dried herb is effective in reducing the severity of allergic reactions.
