A young lady in her late twenties had an issue linkeed to uterine fibroids. The doctors confirmed that she has a “family of fibroid tumors”. Even though the tumors were benign, they had caused her a lot of PMS cramps, heavy menstrual bleeding, and painful intercourse. She had some surgical procedures to remove the fibroids, but unfortunately, they appeared once again. The doctors told her that her infertility was associated with the growth of these fibroids. She was aware that her diet may have an influence on the growth of the fibroids, but she was not sure since she was a vegetarian.
Although a vegetarian, her diet was not completely “clean”. Some things that she consumed regularly were contributing to the growth of the tumors.
Here are some of the foods that cause uterine fibroids.
Soy products
Vegetarians eat more soy products for protein. Eating soy in moderate amount can be beneficial, but the excessive consumption can cause gout and fibroids growth. Soy products (except for fermented soy such as tempeh and miso) are abundant with phytoestrogens that are harmful to women’s health.
Soy milk
Soy milk has a high content of estrogen that can cause hormonal imbalance. An estrogen dominance condition can lead to other health problems, including:
Infertility
Weight gain
Endometriosis
Blood clots in menstruation
Fibroids in breasts
Irregular menstruation cycles
Low or no sex drive
Thyroid issues
Birth control pills
Oral birth control pills are usually prescribed to reduce heavy menstrual flow. In fact, they can contribute to the growth of the fibroids. HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) is another estrogen-mimicking drug that can encourage the growth of the fibroids.
Herbicides and pesticides:
Residues from pesticides, herbicides, and artificial fertilizers used on food crops mimic estrogen and affect the hormones. Foods stored or cooked in plastic wares can contribute to hormonal imbalances, thus leading to many health issues.
Processed foods:
You should avoid processed foods that are packed with artificial food additives including transfats, sugar, salt, flavorings, emulsifiers, colorings, and preservatives. They are detrimental to the liver and can weaken your liver functions.
Other Non-Vegetarian Causes Of Uterine Fibroids
Make sure to stay away from dairy and meat products from commercially-raised animals that are injected with hormones, steroids, and antibiotics because they can feed the tumors. If you want to eat dairy and meat products, always buy organic and hormone-free.
