First Formal School Inside A Prison Opens In Davao City

The Philippine government has an Alternative Learning System (ALS) granted by the Department of Education, and it gives prisoners the chance to finish primary and secondary education. But a recent progress is now allowing the inmates of Davao City Jail to get higher education - while incarcerated!

Recent reports have unveiled that building is now on-going for the country's first formal college inside a penitentiary.

According to Jail Chief Inspector Pio Rosero in a GMA News interview, the college in Davao City Jail would be able to cater 200 inmate students per semester.

The college will be offering Social Studies, English Language, Education, Psychology, and Information Technology courses, but technical and vocational courses will also be added in the near future.

What a great news!
