The set of defense tool of our body constitutes one system. It protect us from any sort of injury 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Here are 9 unusual stuff our body does that we never knew were defense mechanisms:
1. STRETCHING
It is an instinctive act which we make so we can prepare our body for the physical loads during the day. It also works the muscles, restores blood flow and improves our mood.
2. SNEEZING
It is the body's way of getting rid of 'trash' -- too many allergens, microbes, dust or other irritants.
3. YAWNING
Its main purpose is to cool down the brain after it has been overheated or overloaded.
4. HICCUPING
The fast eating, overeating or swallowing large pieces of food can irritate our pneumogastric nerve. This is related to our diaphragm and stomach. And the result is a bout of hiccups.
5. TEARS
It acts as an 'emotional defense.' It protects the eye mucous membrane when foreign objects come into contact with it.
6. MYOCLONIC JERKS
It is the feeling when you lie down to sleep, and as you start to drift your body is jolted for second by what seems like an electric shock. When you begin to fall asleep, the frequency of your breathing rapidly falls, your pulse slows down and your muscles are relaxed. Your brain interprets these developments as heralding death. So it gives you a jolt in order to save you.
7. WRINKLING OF THE SKIN
It caused when your body faces an increased amount of moisture it understands the environment may be slippery. Thus, the skin of the hands begins to change immediately so you will be able to grip smooth surfaces.
8. GOOSEBUMPS
Its purpose is to reduce the amount of heat our body lose through the pores of our skin, thus making it easier to warm yourself in inhospitable climatic conditions.
9. LOSS OF MEMORY
It often occurs after some unpleasant experiences. So, the most terrible moments from our memories are deleted by our brain.
