OMG! Here's why you should stop drinking coffee after 3PM!


Yes. Coffee is really a great boost most especially in the morning or when you're recovering from a hangover. It helps us to be more alert and active throughout the day but it is not always effective especially if it is consumed at the wrong time of the day.

So if your one of the people who rely on a cup of coffee to power them up through the rest of the day, you better take note of this. Some experts are against this routine and they believe that it is better to switch to decaf, especially after lunchtime.

Scientists proved that you could have a cup of coffee in the morning, instead of later in the day. You can get the essential energy boost when you drink coffee in the morning.

However, you will not get the same effect when you drink it in the afternoon because it can destroy your sleep schedule.

Effects of Drinking Coffee After 3PM

1. Poor Quality of Sleep
 - Although the participants slept for almost six hours, they had problems with falling asleep. Because of the caffeine in the coffee, you're taking. The more caffeine your body take, the more your body will be awake.

2. Melatonin Interruption - Drinking coffee late in the afternoon can disturb the production of melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone which is responsible for good night sleep by controlling our sleep schedule. So if you have trouble sleeping or suffering from insomnia, researchers recommend not to take coffee after 3PM.

3. Less Sleep - If you arrived from work or school, try not to drink coffee or any caffeinated drinks, most especially if you lack sleep because of homework. People who drank coffee after 3PM could sleep five hours on average. While those who didn’t drink coffee slept for an extra two hours. So if you want to make your body clock on normal again, refrain yourself from drinking coffee after 3PM.

The production of melatonin triggered 2 hours before you go to sleep. Then, the hormone peak around 2 to 4 hours in the morning before it decreases.

Melatonin level is reduced when you drink coffee at 3PM or after. So, if you want to avoid sleep problems, it is advisable to drink a cup of coffee in the morning or before 3PM. Just try drinking water this will also make your body feel great when sleeping.
