A new variant of corn has become so popular in Zamboanga City for having rainbow-colored kernels instead of the normal yellow-hued bits.
The unique type of corn was acquired from Indonesia and Thailand in 2016, and was planted on a farm in Barangay Bolong about three months ago, Mark Basaluddin, owner of the farm where the rainbow-colored corns grew, said.
"I tried planting the unique variant just because the vibrant colors of the corn made me curious," Basaluddin said.
Though more visually-enticing, the rainbow-colored corn tastes like any ordinary corn, he added.
Basaluddin is now testing the local market to see if locals would appreciate and patronize the unique and colorful cobs.
